Visiting the ISC
Seismologists, especially from our member institutions, and others with an interest in our services are welcome at the Centre. We would be grateful, however, if you would let us know when you plan to visit.
By car: The A4 is the principal road to Thatcham. To the east of Thatcham, the A4 meets M4 at junction 12 on the west side of Reading. To the west of Thatcham, the A4 meets the A339 Newbury. Further directons are available to the Centre's location on google maps.
By rail: The ISC is within easy walking distance of the Thatcham rail station, with services to Reading, and from there to the rest of the UK, including London Paddington station. On-line train time tables are available from First Great Western. Or through the National Rail Enquires.
By air: London Heathrow is the nearest airport to ISC, about a 75 minute drive from Thatcham when traffic is running freely. Public transit options from Heathrow include the Rail/Air Link, a coach to Reading Rail station, and the Heathrow Express, a fast train to London Paddington station, from which service to Thatcham by way of Reading are available. London Gatwick airport is about a two hour drive from Thatcham, and there is also train service, either directly to Reading or into London, although a trip on the London Underground is required then to reach Paddington station. Information about major UK airports is available from BAA.
