List of earthquakes in the ISC-GEM Catalogue with Mw from bibliography
The ISC-GEM Catalogue has a fixed format (CSV) with one field, mo_auth, describing the
author of direct computations of seismic moments M0.
Currently this field is either gcmt (from the GCMT project,
see also Dziewonski et
al.,1981; Ekström
et al., 2012) or bibliog.
The latter stands for M0 selected from the bibliographic search before routine GCMT
solutions started in 1976. As the CSV format would not easily accomodate the reference for the
bibliographic source,
here we list earthquakes in the ISC-GEM Catalogue where the moment magnitude Mw has been
computed from a reliable M0 in a selected publication.
The procedures and original selection of M0 and Mw values were published by Lee and Engdahl
(2015).
Changes from the original selection are described on the Update
log webpage.
The purpose of this list is to provide the bibliographic reference used in the ISC-GEM
Catalogue for those earthquakes with direct M0 and Mw values before GCMT started.
Earthquake parameters should not be used from the following list but from the ISC-GEM
Catalogue files.
For corrections, suggestions on different papers or to add direct M0 from a
publication
for earthquakes not in this list, please contact
us.
For each earthquake we list the EventID along with the ISC-GEM location (Origin time,
Latitude, Longitude, Depth, Flinn-Engdahl geographic region name) followed by the Mw and
M0
(in Nm) and, finally, by the bibliographic reference to the source of M0 that has
been used in the ISC-GEM Catalogue.
The link on the EventID opens a new tab with the list of all publications associated to the
event in the ISC Event Bibliography.
