Description:

The network of stationary regional seismic stations on Kamchatka includes, as of 2002, the following stations: "Petropavlovsk", "Apacha", "Bering", "Kamenskoe", "Krutoberegovo", "Ossora", "Pauzhetka", "Esso". Location of stationary seismic stations on Kamchatka and contours of guaranteed detection of events for various magnitude levels (K=8,9,10,11 corresponds to local magnitude 3.25,3.75,4.25,4.75) All stations but "Kamenskoe" use analog galvanometric channels with recording on photo paper. Four channels are recorded. All transfer functions are flat to displacement between 0.83 and apprx. 10 Hz. Three components are sensitive ones, with magnification 5-10 000 (40 000 for Esso); the fourth component is the low-sensitivity horizontal (EW), with magnification reduced 20 times. The station "Kamenskoe" is a broadband digital station with continuous digital recording on magneto-optical disks. It was installed by Japanese team in frames of the "Poseidon" project. The station "Petropavlovsk" is a basic station of the Russian "Federal network of seismic observations". It has a wide set of channels and instruments including sensitive and low-gain ones. Some of them support the tsunami warning system around Kamchatka. In addition, in frames of the Russian-American cooperation (IRIS project), the broadband digital station with continuous digital recording (Quanterra) is installed at Petropavlovsk station. Its records are accessible in Internet through the IRIS DMS system
